The third seminar organised by Hong Kong REITS Association (HKREITA) was successfully held on 18 April 2024, with the theme “Uncovering H-REIT Trends”. The hybrid seminar attracted over 80 industry practitioners, providing a platform for sharing and exchanging insights on the market outlook and trends of REITs.

During the first keynote session titled “Changing Times in H-REIT Market – Insights from a Logistics REIT”, Hubert Chak, Executive Director and CEO of SF REIT Asset Management Limited, shared that despite the rising  cost of capital and uncertain economic outlook, stable growth in retail sales and e-commerce , would lead to a sustained increase in the demand for supply chain logistics, supporting development of the logistics industry.

During the second keynote session titled “Valuation Trends of Commercial Properties in Hong Kong since the Pandemic”, Hannah Jeong, Head of Valuation & Advisory Services of Colliers, emphasised that Hong Kong presents a golden opportunity for REIT investors to build portfolios with a diversified mix of assets, thereby spreading risks and maximising potential returns.

The seminar also included a panel discussion session on “What’s Next with H-REITs as a Resilient Asset Class” moderated by Richmond Liu, Director of Valuation & Advisory Services of Colliers. The panel featured three distinguished industry experts, including Christina Bao, Managing Director and Co-Head of Sales & Marketing of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and the two keynote speakers, Hubert Chak and Hannah Jeong.  They shared their insights on government initiatives aimed at stimulating H-REITs, as well as the outlook of the H-REITs market.

The panellists recognised the increased market awareness on REITs among Mainland China issuers and investors since the launch of C-REITs in 2021.  They also acknowledged the potential for further development of the H-REIT market.
