The second in-person seminar organised by Hong Kong REITS Association (HKREITA) was successfully held on 20 September 2023, attracting attendance of more than 80 industry practitioners and facilitating sharing and exchange on the sustainable development of the real estate industry players in Hong Kong.
In the first keynote session, Dr Calvin Kwan, Managing Director – Sustainability & Risk Governance of Link Asset Management Limited, emphasised that Link’s sustainability is already an added component of the business, adding that Link has adopted technology as the key enabler that effectively reduces operating cost and carbon emission in the long term.
In the second keynote session, Alton Wong, Executive Director and Co-head of Sustainability Services of Cushman & Wakefield, outlined the potential risks and opportunities that climate change could bring to the business. He also introduced a useful model that can help to assess the physical risk, and shared how to establish a clear and useful decarbonisation roadmap at the asset level.
The seminar also featured a panel discussion moderated by Eddie Hong, Director of Membership of HKREITA and Director of Investment of SF REIT Asset Management Limited, with three distinguished industry experts being the panellists, including Brian Ho, Partner and Sustainability & Climate Assurance Leader for Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia of Deloitte, Dr Calvin Kwan and Alton Wong. They shared their insights on the ESG outlook in APAC and its impact on real estate players, as well as advice for the players on the stringent ESG reporting requirement. They recognised the importance of integrating sustainability into the business model and regulatory requirements.
